Q: How will the loco’s MOCAP work on the basic level?
A: Using the MOCAP function will be possible through adoption of a new wearing method that allows KAT loco to detect and recognize pitch and roll movement of the user’s thighs (Basic KAT loco set), or thighs and calves (expanded set). Based on their precise angle, posture and movement of the lower body will be calculated in real-time by our algorithms. Thanks to that, you’ll be able to carry out a variety of physical actions.
Q: How to get the enhanced MOCAP System?
A: The basic MOCAP system based on a single set of KAT loco will be available to everyone. If you’re interested in the optional, enhanced MOCAP system you’ll need two sets of KAT LOCO. You can get them by either ordering KAT duo or keeping your original pledge and getting the second set through another Kickstarter account.
Q: Can I add sensors to receive the full 16 sensors package?
As for now we have two available setups – Basic (based on a single KAT loco set) and expanded (based on two KAT loco sets). Other, more complex setups would require a longer development process and are not on our current schedule.
Q: Will the MOCAP function allow for full movement tracking around a room? Not just standing in one place?
A: First of all, it is important to remember that KAT loco itself does not offer position tracking. However, when using Roomscale with the standard location tracking of your HMD to walk around the play area, you’ll have the movement of your legs translated by loco’s algorithms into motion in virtual world. Thanks to that, you’ll be able to carry out a variety of physical actions. Therefore, the answer is YES, you will be able to freely walk around your room with Roomscale.
Q: Is it just about picking your legs up or can it also track the side movement of your legs? Ex: A side kick type of movement.
A: Our MOCAP system will detect the side movement of your legs. You will be able to raise your legs both vertically and horizontally.
Q: Is the MOCAP function permitted to carry out real strafing?
A: If we understand you correctly, and you’re asking about natural movement sideways, then the answer is yes. When using Roomscale with standard location tracking of your HMD to walk around the play area, you’ll have the movement of your legs translated by loco’s algorithms into motion in virtual world. Thanks to that, you’ll be able to carry out a variety of physical actions including walking sideways.
Q: Will the Mocap only work in VR Chat? Will it be furtherly developed into other games with full body rendering?
A: We are currently developing the mocap function to support VR Chat. In the future, we will analyze the possibilities of KAT loco’s MOCAP integration with other major VR titles. If significant demand for support of a new game appears, we will check the possibilities to expand the supported games list. Q: Can you use KAT loco to carry out same actions in VR Chat as if you were using VIVE Trackers?
A: As previously explained, MOCAP and location tracking are two independent functions and they work differently. KAT loco does not offer position tracking like VIVE pucks which track the exact location of each single module.
However, when using Roomscale with standard location tracking of your HMD to walk around the play area, you’ll have the movement of your legs translated by loco’s algorithms into motion in virtual world. Thanks to that, you’ll be able to carry out a variety of physical actions such as flexing and swinging your legs, raising them vertically and horizontally, etc.
Users of the expanded MOCAP system based on two sets of KAT loco will be also capable of crouching, sitting down, laying down, kicking, and so on.
Q: How will head and hand gestures be handled? through existing hardware, recorded separately, or will you need more loco trackers to achieve this?
A: Head and hand gestures will be controlled entirely by the existing hardware – HMDs and hand controllers. Their support for position tracking does not depend on KAT loco in any way. KAT loco provides the MOCAP function only for your lower body.
Q: Can I use the sensors to track my arms? Or other body parts?
A: No, KAT loco will be able to track the direction of your body and angles of your thighs (in case of the basic set) or thighs and calves (in case of the expanded set) to calculate the movement of your lower-body. Using them on your arms or other body parts will not be available.
Q: Will there be some instructions on how to use it?
A: Yes, we will prepare a tutorial to teach you how to properly calibrate, wear, and use KAT loco to utilize its MOCAP system.
Q: Will you be releasing video showing multiple angles of movement for the tracked body parts?
A: Thank you for your suggestion! Indeed, we will prepare a video showing multiple angles of movement and available actions however, as for now the MOCAP function is still under development and its successful integration is our main priority. The video will be released later.
Q: If the loco system is already compatible with most VR systems would adding the MOCAP affect this compatibility at all?
A: No, the development of MOCAP will not influence our support for the existing hardware.
Q: Is it available on Oculus Quest?
A: Using KAT loco with Oculus Quest is already available through streaming and full, native support is in development. We’ll keep you posted about it as soon as all the work is done.
Q: Will mocap have its own SDK for developers to integrate their games with it?
